The Stories We Tell Ourselves (And How to Rewrite Them)
We all live inside stories and not just the kind in books or films.
I’m talking about the internal scripts that shape how we move through the world.
The quiet narratives we carry around without even realising it.
The things we tell ourselves:
“I never finish anything.”
“I always burn out.”
“I’m too much.”
“I’m not creative.”
“This is just how it is.”
We don’t always call these things stories.
We call them facts.
Or our personality.
Or “just the way life works.”
But here’s the truth:
Most of the time, they’re just old scripts we picked up somewhere — from childhood, from burnout, from teachers or relationships or cultural noise — and kept repeating until they started to feel real.
My Own Story (And Why I Care About This)
I’ve always been drawn to stories. I studied them. Wrote them. Worked in theatre and TV for a while.
I’m dyslexic and have ADHD — and still, I’ve always loved reading.
Books were hard for me. But they were also escape hatches. Lifelines. Mirrors.
Stories helped me make sense of the world.
And over time, I realised the most powerful stories weren’t the ones on the page —
They were the ones I was telling myself.
That’s why I love coaching.
Not because I’m here to slap affirmations over the cracks — but because I believe in gently, powerfully, rewriting what no longer serves us.
Rewrite Your Script (Without Forcing It)
You don’t have to bulldoze your inner voice or pretend everything’s fine.
But you can pause long enough to ask:
What’s a story I’ve been telling myself lately?
Is it actually true?
And what might a softer, kinder version sound like?
Sometimes the biggest shift starts with the smallest realisation:
“Wait… that story isn’t even mine.”
